What is Alambic Brandy?

I have an old bottle of brandy somebody gave me a few years ago. The label is a metal disc with the name Alambic Brandy on it. Is it any good?

Answer:
It should be perfectly good, yes. The word “alambic”, or more usually “alembic”, is a word meaning a pot still. Interestingly, alembic is a corruption of the Arab word ‘al-anbiq’, meaning a still. The word “alcohol” is also derived from the Arabic ‘al-kuhl’, which is strange, considering many Arab countries disapprove of the use of alcohol. Your bottle sounds as if it was one of a limited edition brandy produced by the KWV. It should be very good sipped neat, or with just the smallest dash of water. Enjoy it with respect.
