Blend your own whisky

Try your hand at being a whisky master for a day at The James Sedgwick Distillery, situated in Wellington an hour’s drive from Cape Town and home to the proudly South African range of Three Ships Whisky and Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky.

The distillery, now open to the public, offers guests a one-of-a-kind whisky experience as part of their tour and tasting. The micro-distillery is situated in the tasting room and with innovative technology and a custom-made simulation of a whisky distillery offers guests the unique opportunity to blend their own whisky. Select from slightly peated to heavy peated malt, and older and lighter wood grain expressions in creating the exact balance you think your palate would enjoy. Master distiller Andy Watts has pre-selected a few blends should you rather trust his judgement rather than your own! Watch with anticipation as your whisky is blended and presented in a gift box to savour at home.

The distillery is open by pre-booking only on Fridays and Saturdays at 10.00 and 14.00. Set a few hours aside to marvel at the state-of-the-art distillery as you experience a guided tour where you will explore the passion and craftsmanship of South African whiskies, come to understand the art of whisky-making and learn about the rich history of the distillery spanning 130 years.

The day includes a whisky-cocktail on arrival and after the tour, a tasting of five sample dishes paired with three whiskies.

All tours and tastings are for over 18’s only with booking in advance essential at www.webtickets.co.za

No bookings can be made at the distillery or on arrival.  The cost is R350 per person for a welcome drink, tour of the distillery, and three whiskies paired with five food sample dishes to explore the various flavour combinations and match your favourite. For an additional R50 you can blend your own whisky at the micro-distillery.

Limited release whiskies as well as the range of Three Ships Whisky and Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky are available to purchase on departure.
