Littlegig, the world’s only 24-hour, all-inclusive, curated festival, returns to Wiesenhof with a progressive line-up of highly coveted experiences spanning international music, food tastings, art, fashion, design and fine wine. The festival boasts a high-level, tutored Littlegig wine tasting that features wines which have been handpicked by top local winemaker, Miles Mossop.

Mossop, the winemaker at Tokara and Miles Mossop Wines, was invited to curate the wine tasting at Littlegig 2017 after hosting Littlegig’s previous tutored tasting at the inaugural festival. The 2016 Littlegig wine tasting was such a successful aspect of the first event that it has now become entrenched in the festival programme as a vital ingredient in the carefully edited foodie offering – one that includes a feast by “wonder chef” Rasmus Munk from the Alchemist restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Mossop’s 2017 Littlegig wine tasting focuses on wines that hail from the Simonsberg region, which is the same area where Littlegig festival is held. But the choice is not a sentimental one. Simonsberg is one of the country's top wine-producing areas, home to many well-established farms that consistently produce award-winning wines. 

Mossop has chosen a selection of wines which are all produced from grapes grown in Simonsberg. “The granite soils with high clay content result in wines of great intensity of flavour”, says Mossop. “And the vines are grown at altitude where conditions are cooler, and this results in an inherent freshness.”

Mossop has included 9 well-known wine farms and 18 wines in the retinue. From Babylonstoren comes a Rose (rosé?) and Chenin Blanc. Bartinney’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Noble Savage Chenin Blanc feature. Both Glen Carlou and Tokara’s Chardonnays are in the line-up as is the Tokara Director’s Reserve Red. Organic wine farm Laibach’s Ladybird White and Claypot Merlot have made the list. The only Pinot Noir is the George Paul Canitz from Muratie, alongside the farm’s blended white, Laurens Campher. Vuurberg’s blended white and red are both there, as is Warwick’s red blend, Three Cape Ladies, together with its Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc. And from Delaire Graff comes the Banghoek Reserve Chardonnay and Botmanskap.

Fundis and winelovers alike will be no doubt welcome this opportunity to engage with the winemaker and sample the best of Simonsberg in an intelligent way, at an extraordinary event.

“The Littlegig 24h Festival will be transporting,” says founder and curator Georgia Black. “We’ve gone all out to source people doing the most interesting things with music, food, wine and design; all in the spirit of open-minded curiosity and creative expression.”

There will also be an on-site wine shop selling the featured wines.
