Diary: Allée Bleue Chichis Lunches

Date: From now
Venue: Allée Bleue, Franschhoek

Allée Bleue, welcomes families to enjoy a day in the winelands on the lawns of their beautifully manicured gardens – indulging in their popular picnics that have become a signature and tradition not to be missed.

With a walled grassy garden, sprawling vineyards and views of the Drakenstein Mountains the estate is the ideal picnic spot to relax under the shade of old oak trees on longer and warmer days.

And much like the life that owners Friedrich-Wilhelm and Elke Dauphin breathed into the estate when they bought it 17 years ago, Allée Bleue’s new hospitality managers, Kevin and Berdine Jansen, have given the popular picnics a fresh look. With three new menu offerings, Kevin and Berdine have ensured that there is something for everyone while enjoying a day on the estate. Each basket is filled with delicious produce fresh from the estate’s soil with a particular focus on Allée Bleue’s signature herbs – the 200ha estate is ranked among the top three herb growers in the province.

The Standard Picnic Menu is a mix of local and international flavours – from a braised beef wrap with sour fig salsa and wasabi tzatziki, to freshly-made mini bobotie pies. Enjoy an Allée Bleue herb salad with a Cabernet / Merlot wine reduction, made from the estate’s award-winning wines, and finished off with pecorino cheese shavings. Picnics are for sharing and there is no better way than to sprawl out and enjoy a cheese platter featuring a selection of local cheeses and cold meats, freshly baked bread with smoked olive tapenade and aniseed onion marmalade amongst other delicacies. Round off your meal with a white chocolate mousse, served with handmade pumpkinseed brittle and farm-fresh fruit.

A Vegetarian substitute of the Standard Picnic Menu is available, featuring a roasted zucchini wrap with hummus and wild rocket as well as mini moussaka pies.

A holistic family experience is the hallmark of the Allée Bleue picnic offering. While parents enjoy a leisurely day in the winelands sunshine, kids can enjoy playing on the estate’s jungle gym, jumping castle and large sandpit. And Allée Bleue’s youngest guests have a menu crafted specially for them. The healthy but delicious Kiddies Picnic features homemade pizza, fresh sweet potato chips, carrot sticks and a selection of cheese, nuts and cold meats. It’s topped off with a sugar cone with berries and homemade ice cream. Perfect snacking in between play.
