The 2015 harvest was hailed by the industry as a bumper vintage and Hartenberg Wine Estate’s latest offering, the Hartenberg Merlot 2015, is a testament to this stellar season.
The future looks bright for this latest release with past vintages being recognized both locally and internationally as a wine of superb quality. Previous accolades include Best Merlot in the World at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2008; Gold at the 2013 Veritas Awards as well as Gold at the 2014 Concours Mondial De Bruxelles.
Be prepared for a wine with an explosion of flavours on the nose such as dark plum, cherry, violets and star anise. Settling down on the palate the wine is silky showing a seamless transition to an elegant mid-palate. A full-bodied fruity wine with a touch of spice and oak flavours, which allows for a lingering velvety finish.
Matured in French oak barrels for 19 months, Cellar Master Carl Schultz recommends pairing the Merlot with lighter styled dishes, such as Panko crumbed pork with mustard cream. The Merlot works wonders with a roasted tomato pasta, as the flavours of the wine and food combine to create the perfect harmony.
Ready to drink now, but will reach its full potential if left to age under suitable cellaring conditions for at least the next 10 years.
