Say Hello to Cold-pressed Spaghetti Ice Cream from Eish Kream

Inspiration can be found in the most unlikely places. For Yaseera Essack Carrim, a 29-year-old mother of three, inspiration hit in a tiny European cafe. After ordering ‘spaghetti’ ice cream typically made using vanilla ice cream pushed through a hand-held machine to look like strings of spaghetti and topped with strawberry sauce and coconut to act as the tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. This dessert has been a firm favourite around Europe for decades but hasn’t changed much since its inception.

Yaseera took the concept of spaghetti shaped ice cream back home to South Africa and Eish Kream was born. With little to no ice cream innovation happening in South Africa, a brand like Eish Kream has made great strides in bringing something interesting and unique to the market.

Eish Kream isn’t about a fake plate of spaghetti though. Yaseera began with an activated charcoal range, a black, sexy ice cream unlike any other. Her next creation was the brightly coloured Unicorn Tears, created to oppose the gothic charcoal range. Others currently in the range include bubble gum, chocochino, lime and sweet cream.

Eish Kream was launched in January 2017 and already has a footprint in over 40 outlets in Johannesburg and Durban, with plans to hit Cape Town come summer. Made with organic milk and cream, and using as many natural flavouring as possible, the integrity of this product is incomparable. Eish Kream has the quality of gelato with the texture and consistency of soft ice-cream. It’s the perfect treat. 

This product can be served in a cup, sugar cone, taco, edible cup or in an on-the-go box (it’s recyclable!). The Eish Kream team also serve at live events where guests can choose a variety of toppings such as marshmallows, heart wafers, fruit loops and candy. Unique flavours can also be created for an event specifically. For anyone that has a sweet tooth, this is surely a dream come true.

Yaseera doesn’t plan to stop there. She is currently in the process of testing savoury ice cream options as well as creating a range of dairy free flavours suitable for vegans. Plus, a new product in development is a waffle cone in a shape of either a fish or a bear and will be launched in October. Everything Yaseera brings to South Africa has to be a first of its kind, and so far she’s on a good wicket. 

Yaseera wants to be an inspiration for other moms out there who are trying to raise a family but know that there is something else they can do. For her, she believes everyone is allowed a little something for themselves and for her Eish Kream is it.
