Date: Monthly, Saturdays starting 8 October
Venue: DeWaal Wine Farm, Stellenbosch
You might have heard about our monthly Top of the Hill Fun Walk, hosted by owner Pieter de Waal. The idea was born just more than a year ago with our first Fun Walk that took place on International Pinotage Day in October. It turned out to be an exciting day - celebrating Pinotage! - with lots of fascinating stories and history, brilliant wines, and delicious local cheeses.
Our aim with the Walk is to have fun whilst experiencing the special charm and character that is tangible on this beautiful, historic working wine farm. With just over 2 km to the Top of the Hill vineyard and back, it is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a relaxing Saturday in the unspoilt, picturesque Stellenbosch Kloof valley.
Our dates are set for the season ahead and you are welcome to join us on this journey to the oldest Pinotage vineyard block in the world!
The next dates for the Top of the Hill Fun Walk:
Saturday 8 October 2016 (International Pinotage Day)
Saturday 12 November 2016
Saturday 3 December 2016
We meet at 09h45 at the Tasting Venue and our walk starts at 10h00 to the shade of the magnificent old Wild Fig Tree.
This tree, planted by Pieter's father, is a landmark on the farm and based next to the 66 year old Top of the Hill vineyard block. Here we will take a short break, and taste our flagship wine, the Top of the Hill Pinotage, whilst enjoying the stunning view towards Stellenbosch.
Times: Meet at 09h45 at the Tasting Venue, walk starts at 10h00
Tickets: R195 per person - includes a wine tasting, a hand-picked selection of local cheeses and preserves, as well as a glass of DeWaal wine
