Ice-cold beer here

Planning a Karoo road trip any time soon? The town of Nieu-Bethesda is an experience not to be missed. From the dramatic church; long, dusty streets and historic houses to the characters that sit on their porches watching the world go by.

Not to mention, of course, the world famous Owl House—once the home of Helen Martins, now a cultural treasure and museum.

Though a day of exploring baking streets in the Great Karoo can leave a visitor parched. Luckily, salvation is easy to come by at The Brewery and Two Goats Deli. Slake that Karoo thirst with locally made craft beer, Sneeuberg (named after Nieu-Bethesda’s mountain range).

Choose from two beers on tap: roasted ale and honey ale. Then, take your beers outside to be enjoyed at tables with views of the koppies by a burbling stream (there’s even a bed hanging under the trees should you wish to take a nap).

Pair your beer with a simple platter of cheeses—made on-site—pickles and kudu salami, and freshly baked rosemary bread. Plus, find a range of locally made goods inside the cool terra-cotta interior as well as bottled beer to take home.
