Market Madness

I’ve always enjoyed being able to walk around a market on a weekend morning… tasting delicious homemade treats and buying little craft goodies for presents or just to have around the house. There’s something comforting about meandering through a busy park or hall full of people taking time out of their normal schedule to buy or sell things that are unique.

The Rondebosch Craft Market is a long-standing craft market in Rondebosch Park, on the corner of Campground and Sandown Roads (opposite Rondebosch Boys Prep). It’s open every second Saturday of the month from 9am to 2pm.

You’ll find it’s a relaxing way to spend a Saturday morning, browsing stalls of hand-made goods and breakfasting under the park’s lovely trees. Craft stalls galore, and a decent selection of instant eats like pancakes.

The Earth Fair Food Market is an awesome undercover food market in Tokai, open onSaturdays from 9am to 2:30pm andWednesdays from 3pm until 8pm, meaning you can satisfy your cravings for real food and great atmosphere twice a week!

The indoor food market hosts top quality traders selling a range of locally producedand artisan food products. There’s free range meat, organic fruit and veg, baked and dairy products, a wine merchant, fudge (my favourite), and plenty more. As well as little food stalls and many craft goodies.

It’s situated in South Palms, next to Builders Warehouse in Tokai Main Road. For further info email

Neighbour Goods Market is a popular gourmet and fresh produce market held at the Old Biscuit Mill every Saturday between 9am and 2pm.

You’ll find fresh, organic vegetables, sustainably snared seafood, plenty gourmet goodies, artisan breads, home-brewed organic ciders, and a festive trendy atmosphere … plus, if you’re looking for gifts, there are also a few quality craft stalls, as well as the Designergoods Market in the Biscuit Mill Complex. But keep in mind that parking in the streets around the complex can be a serious nightmare, so make sure you go early (or late), to avoid the main rush.
