So I brought along my horse-crazy sister and the two of us set off on Saturday afternoon to the Bosch for a little outride. As you do.
Although we looked ridiculous in our riding get-up and had a bad case of hat hair afterwards, it was really something special.
The Equine Sport Centre is situated in Delvera, a farm village on the R44. Delvera has a collection of independently owned businesses that offer a wide range of attractions for the whole family to enjoy.
A fairly new addition to Delvera, The Equine Sport Centre is owned and managed by Dominique van Zyl, offering a variety of horsie activities for visitors.
We opted for just the hour-long outride as we didn’t have time for a wine tasting or picnic but I can imagine this would be a nice bum- break for those not used to spending time in the saddle.
You can explore the winelands via an hour-long outride or add an optional wine tasting tour on horseback. You can choose from either an hour-long outride with one wine tasting afterwards or a four-hour outride with two wine tastings afterwards.
Our trusty steeds were well behaved and strolled between the vines, occasionally stopping to snack on some grapes along the way. The views of the valley aboard a thoroughbred were like I have never seen before and post-card panoramic. With all that fresh air, we couldn’t help riding in a rather relaxed state with a lose rein like cowboys in the country.
As my sister and I chatted and reminisced about the outrides we used to go on when we were younger, the two guides told us interesting tidbits of trivia about the area.
All in all, it was a really great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a different and outdoorsy way to enjoy the winelands.
