Your Wine Questions
What is the best way to store wine?
Question: Wine bottles are traditionally stored lying on their sides. I am toldthis is to prevent the corks from drying out and leaking. With anincreasing number of wines now being sold in screw-cap bottles, is itstill necessary to store wines on their sides?
Question:
Wine-loving friends usually arrive at a party bearing a gift bottle of wine. Should a host open a gift bottle of wine and serve it right away, or serve the wines that were selected for the dinner and save the gift wines for later?
Question: I can often recognise Cabernet, Shiraz, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc quite easily, but I find Pinot Noir difficult to identify. Am I simply being uneducated, or does this grape produce all kinds of wines?
Question: After travelling all the way to Robertson to taste and buy wines from various cellars, I was disappointed to find some of the same wines on sale at a supermarket—for less than I had paid at the farm. Why should I tour wine routes if they are just going to rip me off?
