Would you like to broaden your knowledge of wine? If you are in the Cape there are a number of training opportunities available.

They vary drastically, in depth and length, ranging from beginners orientation courses through to education for those looking to pursue a career in the industry. And a good way to test your tasting skills, in-between classes, is at the numerous wine festivals taking place around the country.

Three popular wine courses on offer:
The Cape Wine Academy offers a variety of courses from an Introduction to South African wines through to the highest honour of Cape Wine Master. Visit www.capewineacademy.co.za for further details.

Stellenbosch University is the only establishment in the country that offers graduate and postgraduate degrees in viticulture and oenology. If you don’t intend on committing to years of study try their 10-week Wine Evaluation course. www.getsmarter.co.za.

The Institute of Culinary Arts based at Spier Wine Estate is a chef school. While the courses on offer focus primarily on food preparation and operations, the school also gives extensive training and short courses in wine appreciation and service. www.icachef.co.za.
