I’ve been a lifestyle journalist, for the last six years, with a focus on food and wine (hey, you like what you like). I cut my teeth at Good Taste magazine, writing features on top chefs and winos alike.
My next challenge was working for brands Eat Out and Eat In as the online editor as well as a reviewer for the print versions. From there I became the editor for www.capetownmagazine.com; a purely a digital offering that explores and uncovers lifestyle in Cape Town. These days I’m working with top foodie U.K magazine, Chef Magazine. I also moonlight as a music columnist for BPM Magazine as well as a variety of other freelance projects.
But enough with the CV… In a nutshell, I’m oyster mad, and I’ve been blessed with two rubber arms: I find it impossible to turn down a second helping and indeed that fourth glass of bubbly. Follow me on Twitter @MaluLambert, and view my blog and portfolio of work at: www.malulambert.com

Roberto’s on Long Street |

Portuguese cooking mirrors what they’re like as a people: robust, generous, and full of life. The Portuguese people I know anyhow are just like that. Certainly not wall flowers.

La Mouette is more than fine |
I can’t think of a cosier place to go for lunch than La Mouette in Sea Point. It’s not just that there are a total of five fireplaces, or that the converted house is decorated in a rich palette—it’s also the warmth and passion of the team behind the restaurant.

Food inspired by a skyline garden |
The rooftop of an urban hotel seems an unlikely place for a profusion of green. But here at The Upper Eastside Hotel in Woodstock, the dominion of the pigeons has been taken over by 40 wooden boxes of herbs and vegetables.

Mulled wine with fresh winter citrus |
Citrusdal is aptly named. On a recent getaway there, we saw tractors chugging along farm roads laden with bright oranges. We walked through orchards redolent with citrus scent. We stopped at farm stalls and loaded our own car with naartjies, blood oranges, grapefruits, and Washington oranges all for R10 a bag, or cheaper.

Marvellous Macarons |
The history books must be wrong; surely Marie Antoinette said ‘let them eat macarons!’ Sheer eye candy this French confectionary is made of dainty almond shells that sandwich a layer of creamy ganache, and they come in all hues; from rainbow jewel tones to pastel perfection, the colouring matches the flavour. I can picture the hedonistic queen on her chaise lounge: blonde hair piled high nibbling on an emerald macaron. |
